InHealth Endoscopy Services work closely with primary care clinicians and commissioners to support the management of patients in the community and reduce waiting times at our local hospitals. We design locally agreed integrated pathways helping CCGs provide patient centred community endoscopy services through a one stop service. Our services include Transnasal & Oral Gastroscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, Bowel Scoping, and Community Gastroenterology Clinics.

What you will do:

  • As a Nurse Endoscopist you will provide a patient focused community Endoscopy Service, performing independent transnasal gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy. You will ascertain a diagnosis and advise appropriate ongoing care to the referrer. You will also contribute to training requirements within the Endoscopy Departments.

What you are responsible for:

  • Providing a patient focused endoscopy service performing endoscopic procedures
  • Ensuring the highest level of evidence-based care is delivered adhering to BSG and JAG guidelines
  • Functioning as a non-medical endoscopist undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures and initiating ongoing treatment as appropriate
  • Working autonomously
  • Carrying out a minimum of 6 endoscopy lists per week, working flexibly to assist in meeting targets
  • Undertaking clinical triage of endoscopy referrals
  • Performing cannulation and venepuncture and to administer intravenous sedation drugs as appropriate
  • Being aware of the work within the British Society of Gastroenterology, Joint Advisory Group (JAG) and Royal College of Anaesthetist's Guidelines and adhere to them in clinical practice
  • Working within professional and organisational standards, being personally responsible for prescribing decisions.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A Registered Nurse
  • A member of the British Society of Gastroenterology
  • JAG accredited Endoscopist in gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy
  • Skilled in carrying out pre, peri and post-operative care
  • Confident, independent and a problem solver
  • Good at organising and arranging work for themselves and others in their team
  • Understanding of both the clinical and commercial elements of the service/contract and be able to respond quickly and efficiently if needed
  • Understanding of the quality issues and clinical governance associated with endoscopy services
  • Understanding of JAG requirements in an Endoscopy Service
  • Understanding of current NHS waiting time standards
  • Diligent in CPD, especially in endoscopy
  • Proficient with Microsoft packages
  • A good communicator with excellent written, verbal and listening skills
  • In possession of a full UK Driving License.

  • CQC quality service requirements and have participated in CQC inspections.
